Air Conditioning Sound Levels

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the quieter your HVAC equipment is the happier you and your neighbors will be! Modern air conditioners have much lower operating sound levels which are ideal for neighborhoods and applications where the A/C unit is near yard activity, windows, etc.

York® is an example of a manufacturer who has a line of air conditioners with some of the lowest sound levels in existence. Courtesy of Johnson Controls, we have added information about the York® Affinity™ series air conditioners with a sample sound application to demo their noise levels:

Remember with equipment that for every 3 decibels quieter, sound power is cut approximately 50%.

  • High efficiency compressors are the quietest type of compressor available.
  • Quieter compressors are isolated behind an advanced composite material further reducing transmitted compressor noise.
  • Advanced fan design for smoother air flow and reduced noise.
  • The QuietDrive™ System features a swept-wing fan design, isolated compressor compartment, composite base pan, and high-efficiency compressor technology that provides quieter operation than conventional systems.
  • Two-stage compressor technology that provides up to 4x quieter operation and 60% more energy efficient operation.
  • A composite base pan distributes and dampens sound.
